During their visit, GCF board members interacted with project beneficiaries and saw firsthand how interventions are improving community livelihoods for Gicumbi District rural community and building its resilience to climate change.

The visited project interventions include a 40-ha climate-resilient coffee plantation owned by 100 local farmers, and a climate-resilient settlement that hosts 60 vulnerable families relocated from high-risk areas in Gicumbi district, Northern Province. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase and witness the impact of climate action at the community level.

Addressing the delegates and the communities alongside officials from high-level Government institutions, Victoria Gunderson who spoke on behalf of her fellow Board members hailed Rwanda’s commitment towards environmental protection and fighting climate change as well as building the resilience of its people.

‘‘The Government of Rwanda has set a stage in delivering on its climate action plans. The impact of this project we visited today for the communities is one of the tangible examples of that,’’ she said. Gunderson also added that some of the Green Gicumbi interventions can serve as a model across other parts of the world since the effects of climate change are often the same.
